I got bored with the chunk of Russian SF I have been reading looking for role-playing game ideas inspiration, see previous SF RPG inspiration post. And on my last trip to the book store I spent so long in the book shop coffee bar that the shop shut before I could buy a replacement.
So, like a good internet addicted nerd, I went on line and looked for a free download. And I found one too, a nice inspirational Sci Fi ebook called Star Dragon, every bit as good as anything I could have found in the store.
Download Star Dragon | Mike Brotherton: SF Writer
It is very hard science fiction, with pages of details on the technical ideas behind his black hole/white hole stardrive idea, and just as much data on an interesting life form that survives within an accretion disk between two stars, one is eating the other – way cool.
And talking about free stuff, how could I forget about Vieka WordPad (the free wordpad for smartphones). I have been looking for an application to use to take advantage of the wonderful and comfortable qwerty key board on my Samsung smartphone. I love typing documents in odd moments, but the Samsung doesn’t have Wordmobile as standard, and Ill be buggered if I’m going to part with money. I tried out WordPad ages ago, but discarded it because it wasn’t wrapping the words I typed. This was a huge problem for my clunky Microsoft online website editor where I was using most of the text and basically a deal breaker but…I just tried it again, out of desperation and I found that I could a switch on word wrapping and increase the size of the font in the view options. Duh. So now I am in love with it, and I’m going to add it to the free stuff I’ve found and use, in the blog roll to the right.
