Stage two of the spaceship illustration for sci-fi RPGs with Blender I started in this previous spaceship 3D mesh modelling post
My intention was to add detail, as I opened Blender (a free 3D modelling suite) for to my second session of work on the Caravel 3D spaceship mesh/illustration for SF RPGs. My plan was to create small meshes representing abstract metallic and futuristic looking equipment. Once these were created it would be a simple matter to dot them strategically about the hull of the 3D spaceship so that it would look more like an illustration for a science fiction role-playing game rule book and less like a sprite from a spaceship combat game.
I thought futuristic-looking windows would be pretty easy to create as well. I think one of the most important things about spaceship construction is the windows.
In the event it’s turning out to be quite difficult to add the detail pieces and have them blend seamlessly with the rest of the mesh. I think it could still be a nice role-playing game illustration when all the detail pieces and windows are in place but it will take a little longer than I thought. As soon as it is done I will be adding it to Tarazet, my Sci-Fi RPG which uses the Mongoose Traveller rules.
I’m also still struggling to get the spaceship 3D model to be the colour I want as well. I turned all the sliders I could find to blue but it still came out green and grey. I’ll just have to keep playing with the settings and try to find the mix I need.
Once the silver detail meshes have been added, there about five in place in the pictures, I’ll work on the spaceship engines and ram scoops.

Hey that’s excellent! I remember using early versions of Blender a while back on Linux and loving the interface once I’d got the hang of it. From then I progressed to Truespace, Poser and DAZ Studio…. so I guess it’s been downhill all the way :D
Love what you’re creating. I’ll remember to post up a few of my starship renders in return.
