I sent my robot spiders into the net again, looking for role-playing related sci-fi and spaceship stuff – and look what they brought back.
First I found this huge list of free sci-fi RPGs. I mean, I love Traveller, but I want to see other role-playing games. There are a lot of broken links though, it must be an ancient list, but some of the links are still active and there are some RPG gems to be had when followed.
For example on this great list of RPGs was the free system reference document for the D20 system, I’ve heard so much about it, now I can finally take a look.
There are some giant robot rules as well, based on the Gundam universe, if a little vestigial and not downloadable.
I found another list too, and this one is even more specific, it’s table-top RPGs with spaceships (but sadly not all free), eeps! Every time I was interested in a game and clicked the link I found it costed real cash money. Mongoose games with all their freebies are well represented on this list of RPGs.
This next list focuses on the spaceship combat rules at the expense of RPG rules in some cases, but it’s still a great list.
This last one is a very nice site I found thanks to someone leaving a comment on my blog. When you open it up, the first thing you notice is that it looks great.
- » My 3D robot illustration for Traveller is starting to look good
- » Photo safari, on the hunt for futuristic looking backgrounds for my 3D models of robots and spaceships.
» Frog King Monster game concept art digital apinting
» Monster Sketch done in GIMP with a Wacom Graphics Tablet- » Utility Mech Design for the D20 RPG

I remember how amazed and excited I was when I first started finding indexes of free roleplaying games.
I have a few more indexes to yet more and for the most part, different, free RPGs, listed on my front page, on the right hand column in the section marked 5: Free RPGs, here: http://www.zanysite.com/tabletoprpgfun/ I found them highly useful and now I have gigabytes of free RPGs on my hard drive – sure I almost never look at them, and probably haven’t played any, but they’re great ideas and inspiration, especially for people with the fantasy of one day making their own.
Thanks Jason,
I'll be sure to take a look, I find RPGs to be an invaluable source of inspiration too.
This gundam serie is the very best. I cannot neglect my 1st time watching Gundam Wing then know about Japanese mobile suit gundam. Hope to have more excellent gundam serie in the future
Couldn’t agree more, I love Gundam-vintage mecha designs. The original Battletech mechs were all stolen from existing mecha series and they were the best designs, never bettered.
