Penguin School Illustration
This children's
illustration is a painting showing the shenanigans taking place in a
penguin school classroom.
It was created to illustrate a children's story I wrote along with my
girlfriend. This illustration features very early versions of all the
characters and
the whole look has changed quite a lot since this early illustration
and there is a new character in the story who is missing but it is
still a nice
painting.
The cool blues in the illustration and the painting of the mouse's
posture really give a feeling of cold and is very amusing for children
reading the
story. The penguins in the painted illustration are very cute and
appealing to children but at the same time they are naughty and they
are getting
up to stuff which gives the image a certain interest and rewards repeat
visits to the story.
The teacher of the class is a big fat owl who seems to be teaching the
penguins about fish, which is of course very amusing for a child of 3
to 5.
The image makes the classroom a very appealing, interesting and
unthreatening place and that is the purpose of the illustration and the
children's
story.
The image is a very traditional children's story picture book
illustration with a very painterly rendering of the snow and ice
accompanied by a fun
big-eyed and cute look for the characters.
