Dangerous Space Dragon Sci-Fi RPG Illustration

RPG Game concept art, space dragon

These creatures are almost certainly an artificial construct, created by a precursor civilization from the prehistory of the sci-fi role playing game you and your players like the best. It is a life form that is almost 80% organic, with some cybernetic components manufactured in a rapid prototyping unit in the creature's belly. It is extremely cold blooded, and capable of going hundreds of years between feeds, lying in wait for its prey in a dormant but watchful state.

It is theorized that they are a very sophisticated type of defense mechanism, a kind of mine. A few can be seeded into an area and then they reproduce to fill the space with a dense web of dangerous creatures, a kind of mostly organic mine field. When an unfortunate spaceship comes close enough to wake one or more of the dragons, it subspace jumps on to the spaceship's hull and starts to chew its way in. Before attacking, the monster checks the spaceship against a database of friendly spaceships hardwired into its brain but, as the civilization that created these brutes is long dead, it rarely even finds even a fuzzy match.

The space dragon's maw is full of cutting implements, lasers and acids, and it can make surprisingly quick work of even a military spaceship's hull. It is also good at choosing a spot that is hard to reach with the spaceship's defense mechanisms, and the players will most likely have to go EVA and take the monster on in hand-to-hand combat. Once the creature has made a big enough hole in the spaceship's outer skin, it breaths fire and acid into the gap until the spaceship seems dead. It then starts to slowly dismember and digest its prey. An uncomfortably organic and primal end for such a high-tech toy as a spaceship.
