Vector Illustrations
Vector illustrations are very well suited to sharp edged and complex
things like robots, but also giving clean edges and a fresh look to
illustrations of
more every day events. The illustration above is for an editorial piece
for Spiralcat.co.uk, an
eclectic e-zine website, about the power of the clique.
The
simple vector graphics image made with Photoshop using a limited
palette and just a few levels is a very appealing, but at the same time
an intimidating
image.
It can be seen in this illustration that the clique does indeed have
power, and the turned head of the figure in the centre indicates that t
is a power that
comes from being turned outward. Vector images are some of my favourite
illustrations to produce because they can be built up on top of a
scanned-in
sketch in almost infinite layers of complexity. In practice I have to
be a little careful how many layers of vectors I build up on an
illustration because the
memory of my tenacious little Sony Viao laptop sometimes slows to a
crawl and then gives up the ghost.
Now that's just given me an idea for my next vector illustration, a
computer giving up the ghost. Watch this space, it should appear soon.
